Flavor Usage Guide
Get the most from your flavorings with these quick-reference charts and best practices.
Water-Soluble vs. Oil-Soluble: Which Do You Need?
Water-Soluble Flavorings (PG Based) – Best for beverages, baked goods, candies, and water-based recipes.
Oil-Soluble Flavorings (Oil Based) – Ideal for chocolates, lip balms, cosmetics, and high-heat applications.
Key Rule: Oil and water don't mix. Use water-soluble flavors in water-based products and oil-soluble flavors in oil-based products.
Bonus: Oil-soluble flavors withstand higher temperatures, making them perfect for chocolate making and high-heat baking.
Liquid Flavor Usage Chart
Our concentrated liquid flavorings work in beverages (coffee, tea, cocktails, protein shakes), baked goods (cakes, cookies, frostings), confections (gummies, hard candy, marshmallows), savory foods (sauces, dressings, marinades), and DIY cosmetics (lip balms, gloss).
Suggested Usage Per Cup
| Cup Size | Drops |
|---|---|
| 1 cup | 1-3 drops |
| 2 cups | 3-6 drops |
| 4 cups | 5-8 drops |
| 8 cups | 10-15 drops |
Start with the lowest amount and adjust to taste.
Powder Flavor Usage Chart
Our powder flavorings are concentrated, unsweetened, and water-soluble. They're vegan & gluten-free, cornstarch-free (won't clog cotton candy machines), and fast-dissolving in warm water.
Best for: Baking & dry mixes (pancakes, cake mixes, cookies), beverage powders (hot cocoa, protein drinks, pre-workout), confections (cotton candy, popcorn, hard candy), and DIY products (flavored slime, lip scrubs).
Suggested Usage Per Cup
| Cup Size | Percentage by Weight |
|---|---|
| 1 cup | 0.25% |
| 2 cups | 0.50% |
| 4 cups | 1.00% |
| 8 cups | 3-4% |
Pro Tip: Powder flavors are more concentrated than liquids. ½ teaspoon powder = 1 teaspoon liquid flavoring oil.
Start with 0.25-1% by weight and increase up to 5% depending on your application.
Quick Tips
Always start with less—you can add more, but you can't take it out. Mix thoroughly and let flavors develop for best results. Store flavorings in a cool, dark place to preserve potency. Check product pages for application-specific recommendations.
